Ran this intent-gap audit on a page stuck at position 8 for months. It found the SERP had shifted to comparison content — rewrote one section, page moved to 4 in two weeks.
Compares your page against what actually ranks for a keyword and outputs a prioritized list of intent and content gaps.
SERP Intent Gap Audit
You are an SEO strategist with live web access. Audit the intent match between my page and the current Google SERP.
Target keyword: {{keyword}}
My URL: {{our_url}}
Market: {{country_language}}
Do the following, in order:
1. Look at the current top 10 organic results for the keyword. For each result, classify the dominant page type (guide, comparison, listicle, product page, tool, forum thread) and the dominant intent (informational, commercial investigation, transactional).
2. Summarize the SERP consensus in 2-3 sentences: what does Google currently believe a searcher wants here?
3. Fetch and read my URL. Classify my page the same way.
4. Build a gap table with columns: Gap | Evidence from SERP | What my page does instead | Severity (high/med/low).
5. Look for structural signals I am missing that at least 3 of the top 10 share: comparison tables, pricing sections, FAQ blocks, calculators, screenshots, author bylines, recency signals.
6. Finish with a prioritized action list: maximum 5 actions, ordered by expected impact, each with the specific section of my page to change and one sentence on what to write there.
Rules: cite which ranking URLs you base each claim on. Do not suggest generic advice like "add more quality content" — every recommendation must trace back to something the ranking pages actually do. If my page type fundamentally mismatches the SERP (e.g. blog post vs. category page), say so first and stop — no amount of on-page tweaking fixes a page-type mismatch.

## Intent Gap Audit: "crm for freelancers" (en-US)
### 1. SERP snapshot (top 10)
| # | Page type | Intent |
|---|-----------|--------|
| 1-3 | Comparison listicles ("7 best CRMs for freelancers 2026") | Commercial investigation |
| 4 | Vendor landing page (Bonsai) | Transactional |
| 5-7 | Comparison listicles | Commercial investigation |
| 8 | **Your page** — feature-led product tour | Transactional |
| 9 | Reddit thread r/freelance | Informational |
| 10 | Comparison listicle | Commercial investigation |
### 2. SERP consensus
Google treats this query as commercial investigation: searchers are comparing options, not ready to sign up for one tool. 7 of 10 results are multi-vendor comparisons with pricing tables. A single-vendor product tour is fighting the intent, not the competition.
### 3. Gap table
| Gap | Evidence | Your page | Severity |
|-----|----------|-----------|----------|
| No comparison context | Positions 1, 2, 5, 6, 10 all compare 5+ tools | Only your product | High |
| No visible pricing | 8 of 10 show prices above the fold or in tables | Pricing behind a CTA | High |
| No FAQ block | Positions 1, 3, 5 have FAQ schema, two hold PAA slots | None | Medium |
| No recency signal | All top 5 show 2026 update dates | No date on page | Medium |
| No freelancer-specific proof | Positions 1, 2 quote freelancer use cases by niche | Generic SMB testimonials | Low |
### 4. Priority actions (max 5)
1. **Add an honest comparison section** ("How we compare to Bonsai, HoneyBook, Dubsado") with a real table — matches the dominant page pattern without rebuilding the page. (Basis: positions 1, 2, 5.)
2. **Put the freelancer plan price in the H2 section above the fold.** (Basis: 8 of 10 ranking pages.)
3. **Add a 5-question FAQ** targeting the PAA questions currently held by positions 1 and 3.
4. **Add a dated "last updated" line** and refresh quarterly.
5. **Swap two SMB testimonials for freelancer quotes** (designer, developer niche).
Verdict: no fatal page-type mismatch — a product page can hold position 4-5 here (Bonsai proves it) — but only with comparison and pricing signals added.

The stop-condition on page-type mismatch is what makes this good. Most audits keep polishing a page that can never rank.

Ran it on a client page and it caught a missing pricing table in 30 seconds. Saved me an afternoon.
