Guardrails

Guardrails are rules and technical safeguards that constrain an AI model's behavior and prevent unwanted or unsafe outputs. They secure AI applications against misuse and errors.

Guardrails can operate at several levels: in the system prompt, through upstream input filters, or by checking the output. They ensure, for example, that a chatbot stays on topic, produces no harmful content, and does not reveal sensitive data. In production applications, guardrails are crucial for safety, compliance, and brand integrity. They are a central defense against prompt injection and hallucinations.
